Process Explorer is an advanced process management tool. Considering what the normal Task Manager in windows offers, Process Explorer is an all in one alternative for all the Task Management. Unlike the default Task manager provided with Windows, which offers only limited options like displaying the running processes, terminating them and terminating the process tree, Process Explorer hands you the full control. It is small in size and uses less system resources. On running it, it displays all the running processes, grouped together in a tree-structure. It also displays the interrupts and DPCs (Deferred Procedure Calls).On clicking any process, it displays the details of the process in the details pane, like performance, performance graph which shows the memory statistics in detail, running threads, security privileges, open network connections, strings, etc. In short, the features are countless and too many to be listed here. Another outstanding feature of Process Explorer is its search capability, which enables you to track down a process that has a resource opened, such as a file, directory or Registry key, or to view the list of processes that have a DLL loaded. Moreover, it offers you the ability to set the priority of any process. It also has the feature to select any process by clicking on the process’s window. On running, it shows an icon in system tray which can be customized to show details like CPU history, IO history, Physical Memory History OR Commit History. The GUI (Graphical User Interface) is intuitive enough, consisting of two panes, with the top pane listing the processes and the bottom pane showing the handles, and DLLs loaded. Using search feature we can search for any file/folder/DLL name and the fast searching algorithm returns the processes that are locking the file/folder/DLL. It has an option in menu with which it can be selected as a replacement for windows task manager, so that it pops up when we press Control-Alt-Delete buttons instead of the default task manager. |
